Product Manager

Position Purpose: The job of a product manager entails the planning and execution of the product throughout its life cycle. He has the responsibility to plan the vision of the product concerned, gather customer feedback, working closely with the IT, marketing and sales departments to ensure product profitability and customer satisfaction.

You will build products from existing ideas, and help to develop new ideas based on your industry experience and your contact with customers and prospects. You must possess a unique blend of business and technical savvy; a big-picture vision, and the drive to make that vision a reality. You must enjoy spending time in the market to understand their problems, and find innovative solutions for the broader market.

You must be able to communicate with all areas of the company. You will work with an engineering counterpart to define product release requirements. You will define the go-to-market strategy, ensuring all those involved understand the product positioning, key benefits, and target customer. You will also serve as the internal and external evangelist for your product lines, occasionally working with the sales channels and key customers.

Essential Functions and Basic Duties:

  • 1 Managing the entire product line life cycle from strategic planning to tactical activities
    1. Identify potential new product lines and/or new product for existing product lines
    2. Perform market reach need to provide viability of potential product and/or product line.
    3. Determine sourcing for potential product, including product cost, licensing/royalty and any other costs need to make a cost estimate for the products.
    4. Present potential product/product line to management for approval.
    5. Prepare detailed market plan for approved products/product lines.
    6. Determine appropriate sales channels and pricing targets for each channel.
    • 2. Specifying market requirements for current and future products by conducting market research supported by on-going visits, surveys and other research approaches that may be need to customers and non-customers.
    1. Monitor product performance it terms of sales, margins and customer satisfaction.
    2. Develop a plan to correct any under-performing products and/or product lines.
    3. Driving a solution throughout the company. 
    • 3. Developing and implementing a company-wide go-to-market plan, working with all departments to execute. 
    • 4. Analyzing potential partner relationships for the product. 

        Performance Measurements:

        1. Good communication and coordination exists with departments. Assistance is provided as needed.
        2. Product line sales projections are established and met to within 90% of estimated sales and profit projections.
        3. Company Personnel are well trained, and understand what is needed to implement and maintain products you introduce.

            Qualifications:

            • Education/Certification: 
              • Bachelor's degree in Business with related experience.
            • Required Knowledge: 
              • a. Extensive product life cycle tracking knowledge
              • b. Knowledge of all related legal requirements as pertaining to product licensing, patenting and trade marking
              • c. Knowledge of budgeting and financial asset management 
            • Experience Required:
              • a. Five or more years of related experience as a product manager in an on line and distribution facility.
            • Skills / Abilities: 
              • a. Excellent leadership and supervisory abilities.
              • b. Excellent public relations and communications skills
              • c. Able to organize, coordinate, and direct team activities
              • d. Strong problem solving skills
              • e. Able to use all related maintenance equipment and computer applications

            Physical Activities and Requirements of This Position:

            • Finger Dexterity :  Using primarily just the fingers to make small movements such as typing, picking up small objects, or pinching fingers together.
            • Speaking :  Must be able to enunciate clearly and precisely spoken instructions. Can conduct a conversation with others in both a private and public setting, give verbal presentation that clearly and concisely communicate the intended concept. Required spoken language is English. 
            • Hearing : Able to hear average or normal conversations and receive ordinary information.
            • Visual Abilities :  Average, ordinary, visual acuity necessary to prepare or inspect documents or products, or operate machinery.   
            • Physical Strength: Sedentary work; sitting most of the time.  Exerts up to 10 lbs. of force occasionally

            Working Conditions:

            • Temperature controlled office environment with minimal warehouse exposure. May require some local or domestic travel. 

            Mental Activities and Requirements of This Position:

            • Reasoning Ability: 
              1. Ability to apply logical or scientific thinking to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw conclusions
              2. Able to interpret a variety of technical instructions and can deal with multiple variables.
            • Mathematics Ability:
              1. Ability to compute discount, interest, profit, and loss; commission markup and selling price; ratio and proportion and percentage.
              2. Able to perform very simple algebra
            • Language Ability: 
              1. Ability to read in English periodicals, journals, manuals, dictionaries, thesauruses, and encyclopedias.
              2. Ability to prepare in English business letters, proposals, summaries, and reports using prescribed format and conforming to all rules of punctuation, grammar, diction, and style.
              3. Ability to conduct training, communicate at panel discussions, and to make professional presentations.
